Zoo goes Naked was a very fast show and was one of the most loved by the audience. The general comment was that the people did not refrain to laugh throughout the show. This was based mainly on improvisation. The four actors took ideas and suggestions from those present and they based their sketches on what they were told. They had no quick changes as regards to costumes and props as they wore black clothes throughout the show and they changed wigs and accessories and betted on their acting abilities. Zoo goes Naked was yet again a different show from the previous ones. This was the last show for this theatrical season 2010 – 2011.

Zoo goes Home

Zoo goes Home was totally different than all the Zoo shows performed before. Everything was different the set on stage, the sketches which linked to one another like a story. The story was about the Family Gauci which included papa Gauci, mama Gauci, nannu and nanna Gauci (interpreted by two actors and friends of the Zoo Team, Ian Fenech and Koren Scicluna), Maximillian Gauci, the twins Gauci and Liam Gauci – the narrator of the story throughout. In this show we could see what a typical family goes through in their everyday life. Episodes which the audience present could see themselves in. And this was the most hilarious factor in all the show – the fact that everyone could see himself in one situation or another.

Zoo goes Scary

Zoo goes Scary was a a ticket-seller-record. Zoo performed the show 15 times and the show was a mix of sketches that have to do with scary situations. Scary but surely funny. The sketches differed from political, to current issues to sketches featuring well known scary popular characters like Count Dracula. Show kept going on for two and a half months with a full packed theatre everytime.

Zoo goes Male vs Female

Zoo goes Male vs Female was a continuous struggle between both sexes. Sketches were a continious power struggle between the two species. Although we have to admit that the women attending surely knew how to shout and support the only lady in the group. Their voices were much stronger this time. Zoo decided to portray normal circumstances that happen in every day life and the people attending cheered and laughed heartily as they could see how funny their behaviour could be. The show ended up a bit messy with cakes and panna thrown at the four actors.

Zoo goes Movies

Zoo goes Movies was another dream come true. The four of us are film fans and when we brainstormed for the show we could not get to agree as each and every one of us had his favourite films. However we ended up with a very good mix of parodies from very well known films. This time the opening number was a sure hit as we saw Chrysander and Owen dancing impeccably to ‘Dirty Dancing’.

Zoo goes 5 This show was totally special for us, in the planning, in the writing, and in performing. In every way possible as we went through the first five years we performed and we remembered how we and the show grew together. The show was fast, new and old characters mingled perfectly together for each sketch. The last number of the show was a perfect success as every night people ended up in a standing ovation singing and clapping to the final song.

Zoo goes Cabaret

Zoo goes Cabaret was a different show from the others as it was very spectacular with dances, music and costumes, just as a Cabaret Show entails. It was very challenging for the four as they had to rehearse moves and singing (if you can call that singing), besides the lines and acting. But it was surely fun. It is nice to see people enjoy your songs even if you are not there to give a concert, and the best part is when the audience laugh at the songs because of the lines altered to accomodate the situation. At least we think that people laugh because of the lines…..or not???? Whatever! the good thing is that the people laugh.

Zoo goes Medieval

Zoo goes Medieval was surely a hit this year. The positive feedback for the show was amazing, leaving yet again the Zoo team with a greater feat to produce a different and even better show after this. It was a success because present issues were part of medieval situations, such as the inquisition, the chastity belt, the burning of a witch amongst other situations that truly were part of our history. This show is special for the team as it was the first Zoo show to be held at the City Theatre.

Zoo goes School Musical

Zoo goes School Musical was a very modern show portraying popular musicals at that time and also school incidents that some time or another happened to all. This show introduced a number of new characters which were instantly loved such as the strict teacher, which we surely happened to have some time or another in our schooldays. The show was very spectacular as there were a lot of musical inserts and the last song ended the show in style. Just the week before there was a continuous debate on the water and electricity bills and so the popular song Mamma Mia was translated perfectly in Maltese – “Mamma Mia…kif ghola il-kont tad-dawl….” People enthusiastically shouted and sang to the song!

Zoo goes Holidays

Zoo goes Holidays was definately another pleasant show which hundreds of people loved attending. The whole setup was amazing. The show was held in the National Park in Ta Qali. The four decided to embark on a journey visiting various countries. The sketches were pretty hilarious especially the sketch portraying market vendors in Tunisia, an ordinary couple trying to hide their child at the airport not to pay the aeroplane ticket, amongst more. The show ended when the four dedicated a song to the newly elected leader of the Opposition party.
